Why?
Why am I doing this? That’s probably the question you want the answer to more than any other regarding Caught in the 3rd Act. There’s no one answer to the question.
I love writing but haven’t spent much time doing that in recent years, especially the last 15 months or so since I got my current job and moved to Chicago. I want to get back in the swing of things.
I have wanted to write a novel for more than 20 years, but have only ever managed to squeeze out short stories. In my rush to tell the good parts of the story, I emphasize that content over pacing more often than not. I also usually have so much going on in my life that if I don’t get it done and over with quickly, I might never finish it. Writing on camera, an hour at a time, collaborating with the public at large, may help me resolve both of those issues.
I want to do something I haven’t [personally at least] seen anyone else do. I’ve seen artists draw on Twitch. Read an article giving live streaming advice from a gentleman that does open source programming on Twitch as well. I personally have watched and live streamed dozens of hours of videogames and watched many as well. But I haven’t seen anyone writing on camera. That might be an extremely small niche market, but I’m sure there are people out there that want to see how other writers work, others that want to be a part of something and they didn’t know how or what. Yeah, that’s a bit of publicity seeking on my part, speculation certainly, and wishful thinking almost without a Don’t doubt, but it’s all true nonetheless.
Finally, I want to push my boundaries a bit. Honestly, I’m no fan of being in front of a camera; I’m not very vain at all. I also am not one to run my mouth very much either, so to be on camera, talking about what I’m doing while writing and soliciting feedback is a stretch for me to say the least. You’ll probably never see anyone more uncomfortable on camera than I am, but my world has been changing a lot over the last 15 months and I see no reason not to go with it.
